Our Catholic homeschool program is designed to be one of the most affordable on the market for families who fully enroll. We currently do not offer a payment plan.
By offering classical and traditional choices, TAN Academy allows students an opportunity to customize their own educational path for a smooth transition beyond homeschooling. For instance, a student may wish to learn Latin in middle or high school. After a year or two, the student may opt instead for a modern language (French, Spanish, etc.). TAN Academy allows for this flexibility and will direct students to the best resources available for reaching their goals. Our courses center on developing the liberal and fine arts to build character, encourage virtue, explore the intellect, and engage the imagination.
The Trivium forms the basis of our curriculum, providing a firm foundation for all further learning. Traditional tools such as direct instruction, video-based lectures, formal (and optional) assessments, answer keys, and workbooks provide a sustainable approach accessible to parents of all educational backgrounds. We give families an opportunity to explore both traditional and classical approaches from Pre-K through Grade 12 with an emphasis on the joy of life long learning.
The Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA) offers legal defense services for homeschooling families who are members. Their website provides free information about homeschooling regulations.
Yes. Our lesson plans are a flexible guide for parents to follow throughout the academic year. Therefore, if you wish to adjust the plan, you are encouraged to do so and our Academy Coaches are available to help if you wish.
This is your homeschool. TAN Academy provides the lesson plans, products, and services to help parents and students stay on track with their homeschool goals. Our lesson plans take out the guesswork so you can enjoy the gift of learning with your children without hassle or worry of laying it all out. You can always adjust as needed with our support.
When life throws a challenge, many homeschooling families worry that their student is falling behind in their coursework. We believe that a Catholic education at home is the best education precisely because it is flexible. Even unforeseen events can in the end contribute to a great education without derailing it.
Often adjustments are necessary to ensure the joy of learning. Parents and students should always strive to be academically challenged, but the greater goal is spiritual preparation for the world beyond homeschooling. One of the benefits of enrollment with TAN Academy is access to our experienced homeschool coaches, who can walk with you through unforeseen events and make adjustments to give you peace of mind about your children’s academic progress.
Most of our courses are products and services from TAN Books. This means the traditional publisher you have come to trust provides the majority of your curriculum. Our resources are quintessentially Catholic and adhere to the teachings and traditions of our Catholic faith. We have partnered with a few companies for courses which provide the sequence of traditional-classical methodology yet also support the teachings and traditions of our Catholic faith. These highly vetted outside resources augment our Academy’s educational aims and philosophies. We are proud to offer courses that are essentially Catholic from pre-K through high school.
We believe homeschool parents are the best judge of what their students are capable of. Speaking with a representative can help you make this determination as well. Once you enroll, you can also consult with your TAN Academy coach on placement options and the best fit for your child and family needs. Depending on the grade level, some of the suggested courses may be swapped for other curriculum or grade levels (excluding required courses).
Designed to incorporate a traditional and classical approach in educational methodology, our academy offers coursework which challenges students appropriately at their level. Families will appreciate our quality education which is not “busy work,” but work that both engage the intellect and inspire the soul. The key to challenge is customization, and working with a TAN Academy Coach can help you find the right balance so that rigor never trumps joy. After all, the journey should encourage students to live as saints and prepare for life beyond graduation.
Some TAN Academy courses are offered in an online streaming format and the internet will be required. Other video courses can be accessed either online or you may purchase a set of DVDs.
For grades K-8, the lesson plans are written in a traditional school year setting running 26-36 weeks.
High school is based on a traditional semester and/or school year schedule, depending on the course. For flexibility, families may adjust the lesson plans to suit their needs.
The time spent per subject will be flexible, depending on the individual student, his or her grade, and previous educational experience. Each lesson plan includes a sample schedule with recommended time spent for each subject.
Our program is customizable, putting the parent in control of how the program is implemented. Our program guides parents through lesson plans which can be altered for students who need additional assistance. For example, a parent can offer an open book test versus implementing a closed book test. Or, instead of requiring 2 books per quarter to be read, the parent may opt to require 1 book instead.
Creating an environment that encourages active learning depends on homeschool families’ needs and goals. We are proud to present coursework for families who appreciate a high quality education with flexibility. Enrolled families may consult with their TAN Academy Coach for advice on adapting the program to their student’s needs.
Students who are fully enrolled in TAN Academy have flexibility with swapping out suggested courses. Other courses are required, including religion, history, and literature, to ensure a Catholic, integrated, and high quality education. Parents may swap some suggested courses, including mathematics, foreign language, art, and music, for another program of their choosing. We have several fully vetted recommendations for alternative courses that will still provide a well-balanced education in the liberal arts. Our suggested and alternative courses support the teachings of our Catholic faith.
TAN Academy recognizes the extent of freedom which the Church allows on the question of the theory of evolution. In elementary grades we do not address the topic. In higher grades, the books we recommend, Novare, teach from a Creationist point of view and discuss evolution, but they do not make any claims either supporting or discrediting evolution. We encourage families to discuss and see the Church teachings on the topic (cf. Humani Generis ¶36; Address to Pontifical Academy of Science, Oct. 22, 1996 ¶5). If you want to use books supporting either theory, meet with one of our academic coaches who will help you find an appropriate curriculum.
For fully enrolled students in their senior year, we can provide a diploma upon request. We also provide a certificate of completion for fully enrolled students in the lesson plans. Parents may choose to fill it out and present it to their student when the coursework has been completed for the year.
Or, to receive a certificate of completion directly from TAN Academy, simply let us know at the end of your school year. You are not required to send in work, for we believe that as parents you are the best evaluator of your child’s progress.
Since TAN Academy is not a traditional brick-and-mortar school, we are not accredited by any outside organizations.
Instead, our own enrolled families hold us accountable to our high standards of excellence. Accreditation is not necessary for a great education: in fact, homeschools are technically not accredited either. In addition, accreditation is not necessary for success beyond homeschooling.
Most colleges accept homeschool students without accredited diplomas. Conversely, there is no guarantee a student with an accredited diploma will be accepted to many colleges.
You can be assured that using TAN Academy’s solid academic curriculum will not only exceed the educational standards of any accrediting institution, but more importantly will also educate the whole person. We believe that Catholic parents should have complete control over the homeschool curriculum as ultimately based on their family’s needs.
Using TAN Academy products and services will provide students with properly sequenced academics - from elementary to high school - in fidelity to Church tradition and teaching. We believe the joy of learning starts with TAN Academy.
Once you enroll, you will receive an email confirmation with downloads and links to digital files and resources. TAN Academy course products, including printed lesson plans will be shipped soon after.
