Paul V. Nikansen, Ph. D.
Paul Niskanen is a professor of theology at the University of St. Thomas. He specializes in the study of the Old Testament, with a particular interest in late prophetic and apocalyptic texts from the Second-Temple Period. He has published a monograph, two commentaries, and several articles on the books of Isaiah and Daniel. Another area of interest is the theological interpretation of scripture in general and the development of Catholic biblical interpretation in particular. In this vein, he is currently working on a new book: The Ancient Covenant: A Catholic Theological Reading of the Old Testament. In addition to biblical studies, he also dabbles and teaches in the areas of Carmelite spirituality and the theology of Christian marriage. He considers baseball the most theological of all sports, and his arch-enemy is Marcion.
